My Journey as a Business Owner

I come from humble beginnings, raised by my single mother alongside my brother. Growing up, financial challenges were a constant part of our lives. I vividly remember relying on school meals as the most affordable option, with little opportunity to enjoy dining out or other luxuries. My mother worked tirelessly to support us, often leaving me to find ways to manage on my own. These early experiences instilled in me a strong sense of independence and a deep motivation to work hard and build a better future.

During my early teenage years (ages 11 to 16), I developed a strong passion for computer games. However, gaming was more than just a hobby — it became my first entrepreneurial experience. I learned to buy, sell, and trade virtual items, earning real income in Singapore dollars. This early exposure to buying, selling, and trading ignited a lifelong passion for business.

At age 16, I ventured into e-commerce on Qoo10 (formerly known as Gmarket), starting by buying and selling small physical products online within the Singapore market. I operated from home, using it as my storage space. One of my first products was hair ties — a simple item I needed for school — but soon realized the importance of exploring a broader range of products to sustain and grow my business. At that time Gmarket was Singapore number 1 shopping platform.

At the age of 18, I was honored to be recognized as a top student and was appointed as the Chairman of the Student Council. Leading and managing large-scale events of over 500 students, taught me the importance of adaptability and perseverance, allowing me to overcome challenges and deliver successful results.

Through this experience, I quickly understood the value of building a strong reputation and professional image and business image. In 2012, at the age of 21, I took a significant step by securing a small shared office. I knew that to expand further, I had to step out of my comfort zone. Eventually, realizing the limitations of a shared space, I made the bold decision to invest all my savings into taking over a dedicated business location. Balancing my studies with managing a growing business — while handling operational costs like rent and electrical bills to pay — presented many challenges, but also shaped me into the entrepreneur I am today.

By the age of 25, my business had experienced significant growth, becoming one of the top-performing stores on Qoo10 with over 50,000 followers — a considerable achievement at the time. Our reviews grew from none to 30k reviews within a short period time frame in less than 6 months. This success attracted the attention of major e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Lazada, who extended exclusive invitations to join their marketplaces, targeting only the top-tier sellers. As our presence expanded across these platforms, the business continued to grow steadily, allowing us to diversify our offerings beyond beauty products to include travel accessories products and more.

With over 13 years of experience in design, customization, and e-commerce, I have developed a keen understanding of creating visually appealing and user-friendly online experiences. My journey began with a passion for design, which evolved into a comprehensive skill set encompassing website development, product customization, and digital marketing strategies. I thrive on collaborating with clients to bring their visions to life, ensuring that each project reflects their unique brand identity while optimizing for sales and customer engagement. My expertise in e-commerce systems and trends enables me to create tailored solutions that drive success in today’s competitive online marketplace. As I continue to innovate and adapt to changing technologies, I remain committed to delivering high-quality designs that not only attract attention but also convert visitors into loyal customers.
